Agriculture Business Operations Manager

OVERVIEW

Red Sea Farms (“RSF”) is a fast-growing company based in Saudi Arabia and the UAE focussed on smart saltwater agriculture. As part of our expansion, we are recruiting an Agriculture Operations Manager to organize and oversee daily operations. You will be the one to ensure that our agriculture business operations are well-coordinated and productive by managing procedures and coaching people  The area of responsibility for this role is very wide and thus requires thorough knowledge of various company processes. The ideal candidate must be competent and able to plan many different kinds of operational activities. He/She must be an excellent leader who can discover the most efficient ways to conduct business. Preferred candidates will have experience in a startup agriculture technology and/or production agriculture company in Saudi Arabia and the GCC but have a global perspective and ambition. The goal is to safeguard and augment the efficiency of the company’s operations to facilitate accelerating development and long-term success.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Agriculture Business Operations role is expected to evolve as RSF continues to expand and the successful candidate will be able to adapt and demonstrate flexibility as we grow. As this is a start-up we all wear multiple hats and the Business Operations Manager is expected to have a strong work ethic and be willing and able to complete basic manual labor tasks as well as complex investor discussions and analysis.  The role’s primary responsibilities are listed but not limited to the below:

  1. Liaise to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals
  2. Plan and monitor the day-to-day running of business to ensure smooth progress
  3. Supervise staff from different departments and provide constructive feedback
  4. Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements
  5. Manage procurement processes and coordinate material and resources allocation
  6. Oversee customer support processes and organize them to enhance customer satisfaction
  7. Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote profitability
  8. Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation
  9. Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors
  10. Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
  11. Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established regulations
  12. Analyze problematic situations and occurrences and provide solutions to ensure company survival and growth
  13. Maintain a deep knowledge of the markets and industry of the company

SPECIFICATIONS

This role will report directly to the CEO and is expected to require:

  • Proven experience as Operations Manager or equivalent position
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Outstanding communication and people skills
  • Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g. supply chain, finance, customer service, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
  • Familiarity with MS Office and various business software (e.g. ERP, CRM)
  • BSc/BA in business administration or relevant field; MSc/MA will be a plus
  • Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing vision
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, finance, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of general management best practices
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Full time (minimum of 35 hours per week)
  • Ideally located in KSA or GCC
  • Fluent in English (must) and Arabic (preferred)
  • Experience in Agri-Tech / Agriculture
  • Business experience in GCC and particularly KSA
  • Proven startup experience

Director of Greenhouse Engineering

OVERVIEW

Red Sea Farms (“RSF”) is a fast-growing company based in Saudi Arabia and the UAE focussed on smart saltwater agriculture. As part of our expansion we are recruiting a Greenhouse Engineer. You will be the one to ensure that our greenhouses are designed and built to the highest standards. In addition, you will work with a team of colleagues to deliver the highest standard of quality and innovation for saltwater greenhouses. The Director of Greenhouse Engineering is a new position at Red Sea Farms and it is an opportunity to lead an entire industry.

Preferred candidates will have experience in a greenhouse design and construction in Saudi Arabia and the GCC but have a global perspective and ambition.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Greenhouse Engineering role is expected to evolve as RSF continues to expand and the successful candidate will be able to adapt and demonstrate flexibility as we grow. The preferred candidate is expected to have a strong work ethic and be willing and able to complete basic office tasks as well as complex design and review processes.

The role’s primary responsibilities are listed but not limited to the below:

  1. This person will lead the efforts pertaining to our design standards for innovative saltwater greenhouses and develop equipment specifications for our greenhouses. Of great importance is the candidate’s willingness to participate in and contribute to innovation on all levels of saltwater greenhouse design and operations.
  2. Owning and maintaining our greenhouse design basis criteria, developing and maintaining greenhouse and production equipment specifications, managing through the design and construction phases of multiple greenhouse projects, working with equipment manufacturers to develop and manufacture solutions that meet Red Sea Farms needs, and leading the continuous improvement program by working closely with operations to solve production problems.
  3. During construction of the facility, the engineer will support project management with RFIs, construction issues, and will lead the commissioning and startup effort.
  4. The person in this position will lead in proposal writing, request for proposals, budgeting, and submission of bid documents, when required.
  5. This position partners with cross-functional team members and senior leadership to identify and pursue improvements for the facilities meeting positive ROI, supports the group with the development of best-in-class project management processes and seeks out opportunities to help develop Red Sea Farms business.

  • Proven experience as Greenhouse Engineer (manager level) or equivalent position
  • 5-15 years of experience
  • Ability to lead tendering process
  • Ability to oversee contractors and construction
  • CAD and drafting skills
  • Site design
  • Utilities, services, site preparation
  • Vendor coordination
  • Familiar with specs for concrete, MEP and structural design loading
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Outstanding communication and people skills
  • Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse engineering functions and principles (e.g. supply chain, bidding, standards, reporting, customer service, etc.)
  • Familiarity with MS Office
  • BSc in engineering or relevant field; MSc/MA will be a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Full time (minimum of 35 hours per week)
  • Ideally located in Saudi Arabia or GCC

Finance Manager / Analyst

OVERVIEW

Red Sea Farms (“RSF”) is a fast-growing company based in Saudi Arabia and the UAE focussed on smart saltwater agriculture. As part of our expansion we are recruiting a Finance Manager / Analyst to support the RSF Finance Director across a wide variety of tasks including management, statutory and project accounting; financial modelling and forecasting; investment analysis, and bid preparation.

This role would suit a qualified accountant / CFA charterholder with 5+ years of experience in a large GCC accounting firm or corporate finance team that is looking to gain experience in a fast-moving startup environment in an exciting sector.

The Finance Manager / Analyst role is expected to evolve as RSF continues to expand and the successful candidate will be able to adapt and demonstrate flexibility as we grow. As this is a start-up we all wear multiple hats and the Finance Manager / Analyst is expected to have a strong work ethic and be willing and able to complete basic finance tasks as well as complex investor discussions and analysis.

The role’s primary responsibilities are listed but not limited to the below:

  1. Management, Statutory and Project Accounting: This Finance Manager / Analyst will be responsible for the preparation of management and statutory accounts to support the ongoing assessment of the business. In addition, the Finance Manager / Analyst will be responsible for managing the profit & loss and cash flow reporting for our large projects across the GCC.
  2. Financial Modelling and Forecasting: The Finance Manager / Analyst will be required to support the Finance Director in the building and updating of RSF’s financial models and forecasts as we expand into different regions and projects.
  3. Investment Analysis: RSF raises finance for each project and is also planning to begin a material capital raise in H2’2020. The Finance Manager / Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Finance Director in all aspects of the investment including due diligence, investor meeting / preparation and valuation analysis.
  4. Bid Preparation and Support: As RSF expands into new projects / geographies the Finance Manager / Analyst will be responsible for supporting the preparation of bids including gaining quotes and consolidating information from suppliers, and the preparation of bid financials and analysis.

SPECIFICATIONS

This role will report directly to the Finance Director and is expected to require:

  • Full time (minimum of 35 hours per week)
  • Ideally located in KSA or GCC
  • Fluent in English and Arabic
  • Qualified accountant / CFA charterholder (near qualified will be considered)
  • Experience in fundraising/investment/structuring would be an advantage
  • Experience in Agri-Tech / Agriculture would be an advantage
  • Experience in GCC and particularly KSA accounting requirements would be an advantage
